Transcription of the taped telephone interview that was later edited and played on "The Pete and Jeff Show" with The Fake Detective from London, Ontario, Canada, on March 18, 1998:
.
Pete = Pete, Jeff = Jeff, FD = The Fake Detective

Pete: Now you are the fake detective.  You are busting porn fakes across the Internet.  Right?

FD: That’s right.

Pete: All right.  Well, sounds like a pretty interesting site that we stumbled across.  How long have you been doing this line of work?

FD: I started around October, 1996.  I officially went on-line  December 20, 1996.

Pete: And, were you just … you know … busy surfing for porn and tired of seeing these fakes and decided to take things into your own hands and bring some justice to the Internet.

FD: Well, I don’t really have anything to do with porn.  What I do is look for pictures of my favorite celebrities.

Pete: Right.

FD: And most of them don’t pose in the nude.  And, so, most of my collection is non-nudes.  But there are some nudes out there, and I collect those, also.  And if I find a fake I try to expose it.

Pete: Well, that’s the whole thing.  Most of them are fakes.  You get a lot of these young actresses and actors that you know that are only 22 now.  You know they weren’t young and needed the money like you know two or three years ago and posed naked, so you wonder why these things are popping up all over the place.  Obviously you did, too.

FD: Yeah.  That’s right.  And the … some them … some of them are just … uh … The first ones I did were of Gillian Anderson from "The X-Files".

Pete: She’s the number one most faked celebrity on the Internet?

FD: That’s true.  Absolutely.

Pete: She’s never ripped it off for money nor fame before?

FD: No, she hasn’t.  Never posed nude, as far as I know.  She did a nude scene in a movie called "The Turning".  I see some video captures of those around.  But they’re not very …

Pete: They’re very grainy.

FD: Well, some are.  They’re fairly clear, but they don’t expose much.  Let’s put it that way.

Pete: Uh huh.   So, ah, you tracked her down.  How many fakes of her are there out there?

FD: Uh, the last number I heard was over 500.

Pete: So, what would people opt to do?  Obviously they’re …uh .. morphing someone else naked body … uh … on the picture of the head.  There are some pretty talented … uh … morphing going on there, too, isn’t there.

FD: Oh, yes.  Some of them are very very hard to detect.  Uh …

Pete: You’ve got to match skin tones and everything.

FD: Yes.  And sometimes the light comes from … on the head comes from one direction and the light on the body comes from another direction.  Basically, the number one clue is knowing whether or not someone poses in the nude.  So, if you find a picture of Gillian Anderson you know it’s a … a nude picture of Gillian Anderson, you know it’s a fake because she’s never posed in the nude.

Jeff:  You’ve got to do the research, don’t you?

FD: Yeah.  That’s right.  You’ve got to know your celebrities.

Jeff: It’s timestaking … painstaking research, really.

Pete: Well, why do the research when Ed here already has and you can check out his web site?  But why don’t you debunk … uh … debunk some other ones?  Let’s go over some of your other cases.  Maybe your more famous cases here, Detective?

FD: Well, one of my most famous cases was Case #126 which involved ...

Pete: Ah!  (Laughter)  Case #126!

FD: … Which involved Gates McFadden … Dr. Crusher from "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Pete: Okay.

FD: Uh.  There were some pictures floating around on the Net that people were saying were her.  But I didn’t believe it.  They were video captures of some movie, and they were saying it was a movie she did in England called …"Warrior Island".  But I couldn’t buy it.  There were no clear pictures of her face.  There were just topless pictures of her being undressed by some guy.  And they were saying it’s her.  Then Celebrity Sleuth Magazine produced an article saying … with those same pictures saying they were from "Warrior Island".  So, I contacted Celebrity Sleuth, and they swore by it, saying they had talked to the producer and the director.  But I did my research and couldn’t find any movie called "Warrior Island" anywhere.

Pete: Ed spend endless hours of viewing in his home theater.

Jeff: Oh God, it was very tough work!

(laughter)

FD: Well, anyways, so I produced a wanted poster and circulated it on the Net.  And … um .. eventually somebody sent a copy of the poster to a guy named Craig Hosoda who wrote a book called … um … "The Bare Facts Video Guide" which is a list of nude scenes that people … that celebrities have done.

Pete: Sure, I’ve seen that in the book stores.  It’s listed alphabetically.  You look up your favorite star and it will give you the film … the time and the film so you don’t have to … you know waste your precious time watching the damn thing … you just go right to the nude … right to the nakedness.

FD: Right.  He recognized the pictures.  He sent me an e-mail saying that the pictures were actually … the video captures were actually of some … B-movie star called … by the name of Camille Keaton.

Pete: Ah ha!

FD: And the movie was called "Raw Force".

Pete: There we are.  So, none of those names kind of jump out for me.   But we’ve got Gates McFadden …

FD: It’s a stinker from way back in 1982 or something like that.

Pete: Why don’t we jump up and talk to somebody more popular.  Like, you know, you mentioned that the number one of all time is ..uh.. is uh .. Gillian Anderson.  How about … um… someone like Jennifer Aniston or someone from "Friends".  Anyone like that?

FD: Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are both very very  … um

Pete: And they’ve never posed, have they?

FD: Uh …

Pete: For naked?

FD: No, no, they haven’t.  But of course it all depends upon your definition of the term "nude".  Jennifer Aniston did a shot .. I think it was for "Rolling Stone" where she has her hands over …

Pete: Yeah, we all know that cover shot.

FD: But, that’s as far … as far as I know, that’s as far as she’s gone.  She’s never done any nude scenes in any movies, either.

Jeff:  Mm hmm.

Pete: Right.

FD: There are lots and lots of pictures.  If you find any of her out there, you can be guaranteed they’re fake.

Pete: Ed, and that’s how you bust them.  For a case to be officially considered closed by The Fake Detective you’ve got have the original head shot of the celebrity plus the nude body that’s been pasted to it.  Right?

FD: Well, technically I just find the head shots.  I have no way of finding the body shots.  If I have a body shot in my case file, it’s because somebody sent it to me.  Because I have no way of tracking it down.

Pete: And that’s how you bust your hardest cases is through this most wanted list?

FD: Yes.  Generally speaking, that’s how it’s done.

Pete: Uh huh.  What are some other ones?  What are some of your other tough cases with celebrities we might be familiar with?

FD: Well, there’s one with another star from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" - Marina Sirtis - who was the very hardest case #161.

Pete: Is she the one with the little dots on her head?  Marina Sirtis, she plays …

FD: No, that’s … that’s from "Star Trek: DS9".

Pete: Let’s skip Star Trek because we’re not really big fans.  So, we’ll edit that out.

Jeff: Neve Campbell.  I love her.

FD: I did a nice Neve Campell … I’ve only done one Neve Campbell case, and it was a very nice one, because it had 24 … um … strip tease pictures in a row of her going through every  … you know start fully clothed to fully nude.  And some guy had replaced the head shots on every one of these things with Neve Cambell.

Pete: Man, that must be hours of work.

FD: Absolutely.  Must have taken him days.  But it was a very nice … uh … nice job of … uh .. art work there.

Pete: Well, that’s the thing that strikes me about you, Ed, The Fake Detective, you … you actually applaud the good fakes … the good work.  Don’t you?  You appreciate it?

FD: Well, if I have … I have … Basically, I don’t have any animosity toward these people.  I can understand it.  I’ve done some myself.   In fact, Case #16 … (laughter) ….

Pete: Oh, sure.  Yeah.

FD: … was one of mine.  So, I can understand what they’re doing.  It’s playing around with the technology.  It’s …  It’s …  You get the computer, you’ve got this capability ...  If you have any artistic talent whatsoever, you’re going to start playing around with it.  Even if it’s just putting your head on John Wayne’s body or whatever.

Pete: We know Neve Campbell … anything you see on the Net is going to be fake.  In fact her movie comes out … "Wild Things" tomorrow night.  There was a rider in her contract.  She will not agree to show her breasts.  I guess they had to hire some stunt breasts for that movie.  And that may have recently gone on there?

Jeff: Yeah, that’s the job I want … is auditioning stunt breasts.

FD: Yeah, body doubles.

Pete: Yeah, sign me up.

Jeff: Mm hmm.

Pete: Now why … why do you think people actually fake these celebrity nudes on the Internet?  Is there a reason behind it, do you think?

FD: I think it’s mostly just to horse around with the technology.  To shock … to shock people.  And um … It’s um ..  When I was a kid .. when I was young, people used to draw naked pictures on the sidewalk, and the only people they would shock would be the person who happened to walk across that piece of sidewalk.  But now they can shock people all over the world.

Pete: Mm hmm. Yes.  I suppose so.  So, we can pretty much … um … safely say that most of the … um …  younger stars you’re going to run into nudes on the Internet  ..  um .. due to your painless research … you’ve found that most of them are fakes?

FD: Yes.  There are a few.  I guess … I guess one of the ones that are best known are … Alyssa Milano?

Pete: Mm hmm.

FD: From "Melrose Place".

Pete: Mm hmm.

FD: She’s apparently done quite a bit of nudes.  And … um

Pete: Well, she had a whole list of B-movies there she was in there for a few years there.

FD: Yeah.

Pete: Is there one celebrity you can point to, Ed, that we would say we would think: nah, that’s got to be a fake, there’s no way she would ever do anything nude or naked?  And it’s actually real?

FD: Well, there’s a couple of them.  Maybe … How about Barbra Streisand?

Pete: Really!?

FD:  She was topless in "The Owl And The Pussycat".  There are pictures … video scans from "The Owl And The Pussycat" out there.

Pete: (To Jeff)  She was … um … Check out "Owl And The Pussycat".

Jeff: Yeah.  (laughter)

FD: And of course Madonna.  There are hundreds of hers out there.

Pete: Oh, God, yeah!  That doesn’t surprise me in the least.  Seeing a picture of her with clothes on is actually still shocking.  (laughing) All right, Ed.  Well, um, The Fake Detective is the name of the web site.  It’s a big long URL, so what we’ll maybe do is hot link it to our site at FM96.com and if people  … um if they want to help you debunk some of the .. some of the nudes out there, they can e-mail you at … what’s your e-mail  site here?

FD: detect at newsguy dot com.

Jeff. Right.

Pete: All right, Ed.  You take care and keep your clothes on.

FD:  All right.  Thank you very much.

Pete: Okay.

FD: Bye bye.
