CASE #301- This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar is yet another example of the increasingly popular method of fakery that involves combining a semi-transparent image of bare breasts with a picture of a fully-clothed celebrity to make it appear that her dress is semi-transparent.  We have been asked about this one at least 50 times, so we had to make a case file of it to stop the questions, even though Case #240 is very similar.

CASE #302 - This fake of Lacey Chabert from the TV series "Party Of Five" and the movie "Lost In Space" looks real enough and appears to be fooling people mainly because there isn’t any real reason to believe it’s a fake.  Lacey has posed in racier getups than this.  But every young actress in a TV series or teen-oriented movie has fake pictures circulating on the Internet, so it becomes a matter of believability. "Goalie" provided body shots that allowed us to confirm that this one is indeed a fake.  As for people who believe any nudes of her are real, it’s as Abraham Lincoln once said, "You can fool some of the people all the time".

CASE #303 - This fake of Natalie Portman illustrates a basic problem with many fakes: the expression on the celebrity’s face is not consistent with the pose.  Undoubtedly, the body shot would show the woman looking happy at being able to bathe in such a soothing place, or she might appear sexy and give the camera a look of encouragement as if asking people to join her.  But Natalie’s head shot is from a somber portrait.  As a result, with the very first glance at this fake we had to ask: "What the hell is she looking at?"

ADDENDUM: When we were sent the real body shot we were once again reminded to never make any predictions.  The body shot neither looks happy nor is she looking for company.  But she's not staring at some unknown object, either.  If she's looking at anything, we can figure out what it is.

CASE #304 - This fake of Barbara Eden could be the start of a disturbing new trend.  We’ve been asked about it many times, but we never found it at all believable, since there’s an errant strand of hair at the base of her neck that undoubtedly belongs to the body shot.    Then we learned that the fake has been peddled to magazines around the world, and some of them actually bought it and printed it as being real.  Uh oh.  First we have magazines creating fakes by censoring, then they deliberately create composite fakes for covers, and now they’re printing fakes because they think they’re real.  Could this mean the end of civilization as we know it?

ADDENDUM: The body shot for this fake was found, but the graphic is already too crowded to add it, so a supplemental graphic was created HERE.

CASE #305 - This fake of Katie Holmes seems to be fooling people mainly because of its large size.  But that large size also causes fakery flaws to show up clearly.  There’s a sharp edge to the shadow at the base of her neck that just can’t be explained.  The faker seriously goofed there.  In addition, Katie has recently appeared topless in the movie "The Gift", which is causing some people to assume that means she would also pose topless.  That’s a bad assumption.  Actresses see a very big difference between posing topless and doing a topless scene in a movie.  And one reason for the difference is probably illustrated here: A posed shot allows blow-ups and close-up examination of every detail.

CASE #306 - This fake of Portia de Rossi certainly looks real.  But as in so many other cases, The Fake Detective didn’t feel that the pose would be something that Portia would agree to or be comfortable with.  She’s done nude scenes in movies, and she’s posed in the nude.  But a candid pose like this doesn’t seem to be consistent with what we know about her (or maybe about the character she plays on "Ally McBeal").  For that reason, we were immediately suspicious when we were first asked about it.  And our suspicions proved reliable.

CASE #307 - This fake of Sharon Stone is the first we’ve ever encountered that has actually fooled people.  We don’t recognize the signature of the faker, and his mark could easily be mistaken for the logo of a scanner.  The fact that there are a lot of real nudes of her around undoubtedly reduces the need for fakery, but fakers seem to feel that there are never enough nudes of any beautiful actress.

CASE #308 - This fake of Dana Delany doesn’t seem very far removed from what she has actually posed for, but that extra bit of nudity - how ever slight - seems just over the line for her.  That line seems to be different for every celebrity, and you can never be certain where they have been drawn.  Since Dana did full frontal nudity in the movie "Exit To Eden", we’d hoped that our research would uncover some posed pictures on our favorite side of the line, but no such luck.

CASE #309 - This fake of singer Stevie Nicks has fooled a lot of people who asked The Fake Detective about it.  We know nothing about Stevie Nicks, so it was a matter of disbelieving the picture until proof could be found one way or the other.  Nothing we found indicated that Stevie would ever pose this way, and locating the head shot confirmed that the fake picture is just some fan’s erotic daydream.  But after looking through hundreds of pictures of her, such daydreams became totally understandable.

CASE #310 - This fake of Victoria Principal fooled only a few people, because most collectors of celebrity images have plenty of Ms Principal’s real nudes in their files.  But when we were asked about it, we were impressed by the job of making the panties disappear - even through the material of the nightie.  It’s not a perfect job, but it’s nicely done.

CASE #311This fake of Susan St. James (Remember her from "McMillan & Wife"?) has been around for at least 5 years.  It’s in many collections of real pictures.  We never investigated it, because no one questioned it until a few days ago.  When someone finally asked about it, we were immediately suspicious when we saw that it was the only posed nude of her that we could find.  We couldn’t locate the matching head shot, so we created Wanted Poster #60 and within 24 hours "Klang" supplied us with the body shot, confirming our suspicions and closing the file.

CASE #312 - This fake of Yasmine Bleeth is an excellent job of fakery.  When we were first asked about it, we wondered if it was from some new photo shoot.  We couldn’t find any previous shots of Yasmine to show that she ever posed nude, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t change her mind.  We also had a hard time finding the matching head shot to prove that it’s a fake - even though the head shot was in our files all the time.  The faker did such a good job of blending the face into the fake that even when looking at the two faces side by side, there seems some small element of doubt that it’s the exact matching picture.

CASE #313 - This fake of Jennifer Lopez is one we’ve been asked about many times, even though it’s signed by the well-known faker "Fredd38".  Many people realize it is a fake, but they just can’t figure out how it was done.  We unsuccessfully hunted the Web many times trying to find the matching head shot to show to people.  Finally, we just asked Fredd38 for it, and he supplied it to us.  Going direct to the faker is not the way we like to solve cases, but if it gets the job done, why not?

CASE #314 - This fake of Beyonce Knowles from the singing group "Destiny’s Child" is one of a series of 5 fakes of her that are fooling people - even though most people notice that the same head shot was used the create all five fakes.  Someone posted a couple of the body shots to newsgroups where the fakes were being questioned, and we easily found the real head shot.  But it’s still a good demonstration of how a single head shot can be used with many different body shots to make it seem as if they are different pictures from a single photo shoot.  So, we decided to make a case file for it.

CASE #315 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar really puzzled The Fake Detective, not because he was fooled by it, but because we couldn’t imagine why FHM (UK) would do such a thing!  When it appeared on the Net, we downloaded it and began to file it away with similar pictures.  Then we noticed that the wrinkles in the pants and other details were exact duplicates of what appeared in a picture in the October 2000 issue of Premiere magazine.  Overlaying one picture on top of the other confirmed that it was the same picture, but FHM (UK) had altered Sarah’s top to make the picture seem more provocative.  And they had apparently also altered the cover shot to make the two pictures appear to have been taken together.  A lot of Netizens seem so convinced that FHM (UK) would not do such a thing, that they feel the two pictures must be separate shots, even though the chances of all the duplicate details occurring in two different shots taken with a change of clothing in between are beyond astronomical.  After days of discussion, we still can’t figure out why it was done, unless it’s simply a matter of economics, i.e., creating a couple fakes as a way to avoid paying for a totally new photo shoot.  But who knows - other than FHM (UK)?  Whatever the reason, we sincerely hope it’s not the start of any kind of trend.

CASE #316This fake of WWF wrestling personality Stephanie McMahon has been around for a long time, and we’ve been asked about it many many times.  While we aren’t wrestling fans, we tried to determine if it was really Stephanie and weren’t able to do so.  Finally, we created Wanted Poster #65, and within hours of posting it we started getting responses from people who knew the picture was really of a contestant in a wet T-shirt contest in Tennessee who just happens to look a lot like Stephanie when seen from the right angle.  So, it’s just another look-alike who pranksters have tried to pawn off as being a picture of a celebrity.  We thank all those who responded to our Wanted Poster.

CASE #317 - This fake of Jennifer Connelly probably fools people mainly through wishful thinking.  It’s signed by a faker who calls himself "Madman" and specializes in fakes that are just a bit beyond what the celebrity might regularly pose for.  While nicely done, it’s still the type of fake that jumps out at serious collectors as being something the celebrity would not pose for - just once.  If Jennifer Connelly ever posed this way, it would be for a major photo shoot and every collector would have collected every picture from it.

CASE #318 - This fake of tennis star Anna Kournikova fooled the Fake Detective.  We had both pictures in our files and didn’t notice the differences until "Wicked Mouse" asked us about them.  Then it became a game of "count the differences".  There were so many differences that we could only wonder why the editors at FHM/UK would go to the trouble.  It certainly didn’t improve the picture in any way, in our opinion.  Was some editor just bored and then decided to play around with the picture?  It also appears that he did similar editing to nearly every other picture of Anna in the issue.  For collectors of celebrity images, this type of "professional fakery" is a true annoyance - particularly when it seems so pointless.

CASE #319 - This fake of supermodel Gisele Bündchen stunned us all when we were first asked about it.  We still find it difficult to believe that a major magazine like GQ would simply paste nipples on a supermodel’s image and put it on the cover of their magazine.  And it seems such a crude job!  The nipples are far too high on her breasts and are too light in color!  As far as we can tell, very few people were fooled by this fakery.  But it seems to set a new low for what magazine editors will do to sell magazines.   Incredible!  Absolutely incredible!

CASE #320 - This fake of Kylie Minogue created lots of confusion.  The detailed work to erase the underwear through the lace negligee is very well done, and there were some who truly wondered if it could be the real version of a censored picture.  Finding another shot of Kylie in the same getup helped prove which is real and which is fake.  With "professional fakery" in such wide use these days, even fakes that should be obvious become somewhat believable.

CASE #321 - This fake of Calista Flockhart shouldn’t have fooled anyone who has ever seen her TV show "Ally McBeal".  There’s no way that even the best air-pump bra could give her breasts like that.  But because the picture was printed in a British paper not generally known for printing fakes, and because it was scanned by a scanner not normally known for distributing fakes, a lot of people believed it.  The scourge of "professional fakery" continues to make amateurs look like … amateurs.

ADDENDUM: At first, only a scan of Calista Flockhart's picture was distributed.  When The Fake Detective stated that it looked fake, the page section was then scanned and distributed as "proof" that the picture was real.  To some, the fact that it was printed in a newspaper makes it "real".

CASE #322 - This fake of Britney Spears continues the current plague of publications printing fakes in order to generate sales.  While it’s possible that the British Tabloid "Daily Sport" was genuinely fooled, it’s still inexcusable carelessness.  We’ve been answering questions about this fake for almost a year, but we never thought it was believable enough for use in a Case File.  Now it is, because it has been published and distributed as being real.

CASE #323 - This fake of Jennifer Aniston shows some creativity in that it looks like it is from the Rolling Stone photo shoot, but it’s not.  Whether the faker did that deliberately or not is anyone’s guess, but it made it believable enough to fool a lot of people.  The lighting on the face, however, doesn’t seem consistent with the rest of the lighting in the picture, and that immediately triggered a hunt for the matching head shot by The Fake Detective.

CASE #324 - This fake of British pop singer Billie Piper is the first of her that we’ve seen.  We’d never heard of Billie before we were asked about this fake by several people in one day.  These days it’s a definite a sign of success when fakes start appearing of a new celebrity.  It’s always a surprise to us when we discover there are dozens of fan web sites for a celebrity we’ve never heard of, and it takes some extra research to find out whether or not she does nudity.  Billie apparently doesn’t.  (Believe it or not, there was a time when we’d never heard of Geri Halliwell and didn’t know if she’d ever posed in the nude or not.)  Live and learn.

CASE #325 - This fake of Katherine Heigl from the TV series "Roswell"  has reportedly been offered for sale on e-bay many times, getting sales each time.  Yet it’s just another fake.  It’s very well done, and except for those exactly matching strands of hair on the left side of her face, it would have been difficult to close this file.  Only her face and the strands of hair over her face or very nearby on her left side were used from the head shot.  Everything else belongs to the body shot.  Making things more difficult is the fact that she’s posed "almost nude" on at least one occasion.  That makes this fake even more believable.

CASE #326 - This fake of singer Dido generated a flurry of e-mails when it appeared on the Internet and everyone began speculating if it could be real or not.  It’s not.  It’s just another demonstration that every beautiful celebrity gets faked sooner or later.  Welcome to the club, Dido.  While The Fake Detective immediately saw that it was almost certainly a fake, we couldn’t find the matching real picture.  But a Dido fan who calls himself "Pita" saved the day by sending it to us.  Thanks, "Pita".

CASE #327 - This fake of Jessica Alba is a bit different.  It shows no nudity, but merely shows her holding a bong for smoking tobacco (yeah, sure!) or marijuana.  No doubt the groggy expression on her face caused the faker to think along those lines and to manufacture this image.  There seems to be no malicious intent, just someone’s idea of fooling around.  But it shows what kind of things can be done with digital fakery besides creating fake nudity.

CASE #328 - This fake of model Gisele Bundchen is one of the best we’ve seen in awhile.  It was created by the faker who calls himself "Jello".  He normally signs his fakes, but it’s also becoming very normal for people to strip off fakers’ signatures and to distribute the fakes as being real.  It’s an excellent job, but the original was the greatest picture ever taken of Gisele (in our opinion), so Jello had a good starting point.

CASE #329 - This fake of Nicole Kidman is very nicely done, but there’s absolutely no reason for anyone to believe that Nicole would pose this way.  The fake illustrates The Fake Detective’s guiding principle that, although a picture may appear to be flawlessly real, if the pose is totally out of character for the celebrity, then it should be viewed with suspicion.  It would have taken an Act of Congress to convince us that this was a real picture of Nicole Kidman - and maybe not even then.

CASE #330 - This fake of British actress/singer Rachel Stevens didn’t fool The Fake Detective for a second.  Although he’d never heard of Rachel (nor the band "S Club 7") until he was asked about this fake, he instantly recognized his favorite picture (and the body) of Jules Asner from E! News Daily, an entertainment TV news show we watch every day.  As a result, this fake became an instant Case File because it brought another new celebrity into the collection, and it also provided an excuse for us to display our favorite picture of the beautiful Ms Asner.

CASE #331 - This fake of Toni Braxton fooled a few people who have seen various shots of Toni posing in see-through clothing, each more provocative than the one previous.  But if Toni ever does pose totally nude, the pictures will be well-advertised by the magazine, and there will certainly be more than just one shot.  So, this fake immediately raised suspicions with The Fake Detective.

CASE #332 - This fake of Charlize Theron is nicely done, and it fooled a lot of people, but The Fake Detective has seen plenty of topless pictures of Charlize and knows that her breasts would not be that perky if she was in that position.  After years of analyzing breasts, some things become immediately clear to the discerning eye.

CASE #333 - This fake of Meg Ryan is another "professional fake" created by editors of a magazine.  This one differs only in that the editor took the head from one picture of Meg and the body from another picture of Meg to create a new picture of Meg.  There are undoubtedly many thousands of such "professional fakes" around.  This one just illustrates how editors can now create the pictures that fit their needs more easily than fitting real pictures to their needs.

CASE #334 - This fake of Celine Dion is very similar to Case #333 and was probably created for the very same reasons: the editor apparently didn’t like any of the real pictures he had available and created a new one that allowed him to place the text onto the cover in a way that he considered more pleasing.  The fake was on the cover and the real head shot was inside the magazine.  The instant the pictures were seen side by side, it was clear to The Fake Detective that one was a fake.  Overlaying one picture upon the other quickly confirmed it.

CASE #335 - This fake of Janet Jackson really shouldn’t have fooled anyone, but the background is a bit reminiscent of a music video where she (or a double) could be seen from the back frolicking around topless (and nearly bottomless) in a similar setting.  But the picture of her is just a fake, and so is the background.  It’s probably a good assumption that until the unlikely event that Janet poses topless, she won’t be posing bottomless.

CASE #336 - This fake of Sela Ward was apparently created by someone who has never seen a real bare breast, since he pasted on one that looks like it came from a cartoon.  Although there are many who dream that Sela will someday pose like this - before it’s too late - she hasn’t done so yet.  So, until then, dreams and fakes will have to suffice.

CASE #337 - This fake of Emma Samms has been around for a long time and is usually part of a large graphic that includes a phony description of how the picture came to be taken.  If anyone believes that she would pose like this for a wealthy fan, then they would probably believe that the picture is real, too.

CASE #338 - This fake of Andrea Parker takes us back to the olden days when most fakes were created by using bodies of Playboy Playmates.  That’s probably the situation here, too.  Since Andrea doesn’t seem to do many publicity shoots, and real pictures of her are somewhat hard to find, people might assume that she has posed this way - particularly after watching that memorable scene of her in lingerie in the now defunct TV series "The Prentender".  But it’s just another fake created by a fan who wanted to imagine the unlikely day when she might possibly pose for Playboy.

CASE #339This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt has been the subject of an intense controversy since it was first printed in the June 2001 issue of the British edition of GQ magazine.  Did JLH really pose in a see-through top, or did GQ fake the picture?  The evidence of fakery appears overwhelming: The cover shot of JLH in the same top shows no transparency (and it doesn’t appear to be censored), an apparent original scan of the picture shows no transparency, and GQ has been known to fake pictures in the past.  While there may still be arguments (particularly since JLH’s "official web site once advertised the fake), we decided to close the case file and withdraw Wanted Poster #66.  If further evidence shows up later, we’ll revise or withdraw the Case File.

Addendum:  This case was the subject of a lengthy debate that can be examined in some detail in Chapter 28 of "The Adventures Of The Fake Detective".

CASE #340 - This fake of Jeri Ryan is another of those cases where we couldn’t believe the fake was real, but we couldn’t really see anything about it that was fake.  If Jeri Ryan had posed nude prior to becoming famous on "Voyager", this would probably be the type of pose she might do, i.e., "nude" but not really nude, with all the "naughty bits"  hidden from view.  But, alas, it’s just another fake.  Wishful thinkers across the globe can return to their normal waiting state.

CASE #341 - This fake of Anna Kournikova is very well done, and while we didn’t believe it for a second, we couldn’t be certain if it was Anna’s head on someone else’s body, or if the body was really hers and the bikini had been made transparent.  It was such a good fake that it seemed odd that it wasn’t signed.  For a moment we thought the tattoo on her arm was a faker’s signature, but when we asked a group of fakers if there was a larger version around where the tattoo could be clearly seen, "TMFU" responded by sending us the original, larger fake and the head shot.  It turned out to be a real tattoo.  The faker’s signature was almost certainly removed by the web site that appropriated the fake and displayed it as being real.

CASE #342 - This fake of England’s Prince Andrew is far from typical of what is seen on the Internet today, but it is very reminiscent of what was seen in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s when it was common for countries like The Soviet Union to alter photographs of national figures to suit the political climate of the moment.  It makes one wonder why the Daily Mail used the photograph in the first place.   And if it was the only picture of the incident, why not censor it with a black rectangle to show it was censored?  Why turn it into a fake?

CASE #343 - These two fakes of Charisma Carpenter were probably created by the same faker.  Because there are two of them and they often appear together, they seem to validate each other.  But on close inspection it can be seen that the same head shot was used for both fakes.  With Charisma exposing more and more in her photo shoots, it’s no wonder that these fakes fooled a lot of people.

Addendum:  People have supplied the body shots for the two fakes.  They are on supplement pages located HERE and HERE.

CASE #344 - This fake of Sandra Bullock seems to have fooled everyone - not because they believed it was real, but because they assumed it was a typical fake where Sandra’s dress had been digitally manipulated to make it appear semi-transparent.  Even the Fake Detective assume that, as he searched his files looking for a picture of Sandra in a similar dress. When he couldn’t find such a picture, he contacted the faker "Trillian" who solved the mystery by providing the real body shot.  The dress is really semi-transparent, but only the head and the necklace belong to Sandra.  And everyone already had the head shot.  The size, clarity and flawless workmanship on this fake make it truly exceptional.  We are still amazed by it.

CASE #345 - This fake of Nana Visitor proves that Star Trek women may vanish from sight, but they are never forgotten by science fiction fans.  Fakes of women from science fiction TV series have always been the favorite targets of fakers.  And real pictures of women from sci-fi series must also be favorites of collectors, since we keep getting asked about this fake and whether or not it is real.

CASE #346 - This fake of singer Suzanne Vega was a true test of the three criteria we use for choosing which of the more than 100,000 fakes on the Internet become case files.  We couldn’t possibly expose them all, so we need to pick and choose.  Criterion #1 is that the fake must fool a lot of people, and this one did that, since the lowered neckline is so subtle that no one really had any reason to think it was faked.  Criterion #2 is that the fake should be interesting.  This fake failed that test miserably.  It’s the most boring fake we’ve seen in a long time.  But criterion #3 says that if only one of the prior two criterion is valid, then the tie-breaker would be if the person in the fake has never had a case file before.  This is Suzanne Vega’s first case file, dull and boring as it may be.

CASE #347 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt isn’t really a fake, nor is it real.  It’s a digital painting by an artist named "Steven" who has created a large number of such paintings.  They are so lifelike and realistic (except, perhaps, for the wardrobe), that many of them regularly fool people.  We delayed creating a case file for any of them because the head and body shots aren’t exact matches.  All the normal rules do not apply when true artistry is being used.

Addendum: A few other examples of Stevens’ work can be seen by clicking HERE.

CASE #348 - This fake of Julia Stiles is very well done, and one can easily see why it is fooling people.  The Fake Detective briefly wondered if it could be real - until he realized that, even though it’s only a see-through, it would be the only posed nude photograph he’d ever seen of Julia.  That immediately set off alarms.  A check of her movie credits found that - as of this date - she hadn’t really done any nude scenes in movies, either.  That made it very unlikely that the picture was real, and from there it was just a matter of locating the matching head shot to verify that the picture was a fake.

CASE #349 - This fake of Heather Graham illustrates one of the reasons so many fakes are believed.  Heather has appeared totally nude in many movies, but, except for a few "covered nude" shots, she has never posed for nude still photographs.  There are "lines of nudity" that celebrities draw and which they will not cross, and each draws her own lines.  Someday Heather might cross the line and pose for nude still photographs, but as of today it’s still safe to assume that any posed nude picture of her that shows anything is probably fake.

CASE #350 - This fake of Angelina Jolie achieved some degree of credibility by appearing on a Celebrity Sleuth Magazine web site.  But her fans know she hasn’t yet posed topless for still photographs, even though she has certainly been topless often enough in movies.  The fake gets some points for changing the reflection in the window glass, and the lighting is a very good match, but the expression on Angelina’s face just doesn’t match the pose.

Addendum: The fake not only appeared on the Celebrity Sleuth web site, it was also printed in their magazine.  A scan of the page is HERE.

CASE #351 - This fake of Bijou Phillips is a bit different.  When it first appeared in celebrity newsgroups, her American fans didn’t know what to make of it, since everyone remembered the totally nude picture of in Playboy.  Who would put a bikini bottom on a nude picture of Bijou?  The answer seems to be: Russia’s Playboy.  Apparently the editors of the Russian edition of Playboy weren’t comfortable with the shot of waif-like Bijou and censored it for their readers.  So, we have a unique situation of one edition of Playboy censoring a picture printed in another edition.  Technically, it might be censoring, but in our way of evaluating photographs, it’s also fakery.

CASE #352 - This fake of Angelina Jolie fooled a lot of people because they automatically assumed it was some kind of publicity still for "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".  Under close examination, however, one can see a bit of nipple, and that should immediately raise suspicions.  Would a publicity still do that?  Not likely.  When a more careful examination is made of the picture, one finds the signature of "Admiral" from "The Department of Fakery" fakers’ group in the bottom right corner.  All doubt whether or not it’s a fake ends there.  It is a fake.

CASE #353 - This fake of Natalie Portman fools a lot of people simply because people can’t believe that anyone would bother to create a fake that doesn’t seem worth the bother.  The Fake Detective had it in his collection of real pictures of Natalie until "Dr. Plaid" pointed out that it was a fake.  It’s in many other collections, too.  Some faker apparently gets his kicks from creating fakes that no one would expect to be fakes.  It takes all kinds to make a world.

CASE #354 - This fake of Julia Stiles raised questions as soon as it appeared on the Internet, since Julia has been very careful to project to her public an image of a serious actress - not a sexpot.  Even though the fake shows only the edge of a nipple, that’s apparently beyond what Julia’s willing to pose for, since her fans have never seen her do that before.  But she has posed in bare midriff clothing that allows her fans to make note of the shape of her belly button, and the fake clearly has a belly button that isn’t hers.

CASE #355 - This fake of Susan Dey fools a lot of people because it is extremely well done - for a black and white fake - and the only flaw seems to be that her neck appears a bit too long, which is a typical indicator of a celebrity’s head being pasted on someone else’s body.  As a result, it was a big surprise to The Fake Detective when the real picture appeared on the Internet and it turned out that the fakery was done in a totally unexpected way.  It’s really an amazing job of digitally removing the bathing suit.  It makes one think: Hey!  I’d like to see if I could do that on a picture of …

CASE #356This fake of Cameron Diaz keeps showing up in collections of real pictures, although it’s just another example of using digital tricks to make a celebrity’s dress appear to be semi-transparent.  We were asked about it so often, and the matching real picture seemed so elusive, we were finally forced to create Wanted Poster #44 almost two years ago.  Finally "CyperFox" found a version of the real picture on a Hungarian Cameron Diaz fan site.  We thank "CyberFox" for the assist.

CASE #357 - This fake of Tiffani-Amber Thiessen probably fools a lot more people than the number who ask questions about it.  Since it’s not far beyond what Tiffani-Amber has actually worn in public, there isn’t much reason to think it’s a fake - unless you happen to notice the logo of the "Pooporazzi" faker’s group on her purse.  That is when the real mystery begins: Exactly what was faked?  Is it her head on someone else’s body?  Was the blouse made to appear transparent?  Because the blouse seems to hang unnaturally straight, we’ve always assumed that the entire blouse was replaced.  When we finally found the real picture, that was confirmed.

CASE #358 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of the most believable around - if not the most believable.  It’s a masterwork of matching skin tones, hair, lighting, expression, etc.  The original body shot belongs to Natalie Appleton formerly of All Saints, who might feel annoyed to have someone else’s head on her body.  It’s almost the ultimate indicator of unknown-ness.  Since Sarah has been seen in public in plunging necklines quite frequently lately, it’s easy to see why people are fooled by this - in addition to its large size and virtual lack of flaws.  This fake shows what the future of fakery will be like.

Addendum: PicCap's signature on the fake does not indicate that PicCap created the fake.  According to PicCap, the logo must have been taken from some other scan he did, since the location doesn't match his scan of Natalie Appleton.  The faker undoubtedly added PicCap's logo in order to make the fake appear more real - since PicCap is a well-known and reliable scanner and not a faker.  And now some people have accused PicCap of making the fake, which upsets him greatly.

CASE #359 - This fake of Shania Twain has fooled many people, and we’ve been asked about it many times.  We’ve never thought it was particularly believable, but it’s often difficult to tell what people will believe.  For us, to believe this one we’d have had to see other shots of the same incident, such as a sequence of video captures as her nipple popped out and then back in - or whatever might have happened.  And we’d have had to have heard about the incident, because it certainly would have been talked about.  But it never happened.  With a topless dress like that, maybe it could have happened, but it didn’t.

CASE #360 - This fake of Jennifer Lopez is so good that it is difficult to believe that it isn’t real - even after proving it by overlaying the real picture atop the fake.  The way the shoulder and arm were lowered so that the arm wouldn’t be too long, and the way the arm was straightened involve techniques that the average faker wouldn’t even be able to imagine, much less accomplish.  As a result, some people insist that both pictures must be real.  But it would be next to impossible for her to move her arm so much and to still have her hair remain exactly in the same place.  Plus, the faker created a second fake where it is even more clear that she could not have moved her pants lower without some other movement elsewhere in the picture.  It’s really an impressive pair of fakes.

CASE #361 - This fake of Gillian Anderson certainly fooled us.  We’ve had it in our files of real pictures for years, and it wasn’t until we decided to go through those files to eliminate duplicate pictures of Gillian that we realized that one of these two pictures must be a fake.  We don’t know if the fake was created by an amateur or not, but the work certainly seems professional.  The vinyl gloves were the first thing we noticed.  Then the closed neckline, the added collar and the letters "FBI".  Then the lengthened zipper.  And the added moon and stars, of course.  When we realized there were so many changes which required a lot of work, we could only wonder: Why?  In whose mind was the fake better than the original?  And why did they think it was better?

CASE #362 - This fake of Nicole Kidman is signed by the well-known faker "Trillian", so it probably didn’t fool many people.  But many wondered: Which celebrity actually showed a nipple at a red carpet public function that way?  Who owned the body used to create the fake?  Nicole has popped a nipple on occasion, but not quite like this.  Who did it?  It wasn’t until we asked the faker himself that we learned just how much fakery was involved in creating the picture.  No celebrity exposed a nipple that way.  The body shot was from a studio photograph of an unknown model, and the background was created for the fake from totally different red carpet pictures of Gwyneth Paltow and Halle Berry.  Wow!  While not fooled by the fake, we were certainly fooled by how it was done.  The only totally real element in the fake is the obvious talent of the faker.

CASE #363 - This fake of Brittany Murphy simply looks believable.  It’s easy to understand why it fools people.  Removing the strap from between her fingers and adding some kind of card (is it the faker’s signature?) is a nice touch, but adding a two-toned shadow for the card is artistry.  This is a very impressive fake, and if you don’t know whether or not Brittany would pose for such a shot, it’s totally believable.

CASE #364This fake of Britney Spears has been around for a long time and seems to constantly fool people, most of them apparently thinking it was printed in Playboy.  But it’s just another fake.  Because it’s been around for so long and keeps popping up in collections of real pictures, we decided to create Wanted Poster #70 to find the head shot.  It took only two days for someone to respond, and we thank "timk013" for the assist.

CASE #365 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt fooled a surprising number of people, even though it’s highly unlikely Jennifer would allow such a thing to happen.  It might happen by accident when she’s moving around, or being hugged, or when she’s raising her arms for some reason, but it’s not likely to happen while she’s standing and posing in front of a bank of photographers.  She’s smart enough to know that when the photographers start climbing over one another and punching each other to get a photograph, that means she’s showing a bit too much.  That clearly didn’t happen here.  It’s just a fake.

CASE #366 - This fake of Xenia Seeburg fools people because Ms Seeburg plays a very sexy role on the TV series "Lexx", and such a photograph would seem to fit her image.  But, except for some see-through shots, we haven’t found any posed nudes by her.  When this fake showed up on the Internet, most people had no reason to question it.  But because we had no other shots of her posing like this, it didn’t take long to find the head shot and confirm that it was a fake.

CASE #367 - This fake of Angelina Jolie is clearly fooling people, since it is on the side of a coffee mug being offered for sale on e-bay.  Then again, buying a coffee mug is different from buying fake picture from e-bay.  At least with a coffee mug you have something useful, whether or not the picture is real.  In fact, people may not even care if it is a real picture or a fake.  With pictures on coffee mugs, the purpose is usually to provoke conversations.  And this might definitely do that.

CASE #368 - This fake of Jennifer Garner is one of those fakes that fools a lot of people simply because there is no reason to disbelieve it.  There’s no reason to believe she wouldn’t pose this way.  She must have gotten those square shoulders from somewhere.  But the picture is a fake nonetheless.  And that means we can still look forward to the day when Jennifer actually does pose all sweaty and in a tight blouse and short shorts.

CASE #369 - This fake of Meg Ryan is similar to some fakes of Sandra Bullock in that the only change is to make her breasts look bigger.  In this case they also added a bit of a lace bra to help the illusion.  Frankly, we think that if Meg and Sandra did have voluptuous breasts, they would no longer be Meg and Sandra.  However, women with small breasts shouldn’t slouch when wearing low cut necklines.  There’s no point in making something small also look flat and droopy.

CASE #370 - This fake of Julia Louis-Dreyfus is very subtle and one wonders why the faker did it.  Perhaps he had a perfect match in the lighting and coloring and couldn’t resist the impulse.  It’s difficult to decide which is more sexy, the fake or the original.  The original head shots shows what it shows, but the fake causes one to wonder whether or not she's wearing a thong.  And it's interesting to think that maybe she isn’t wearing one.  In our opinion, it’s one’s imagination that makes the fake a bit more sexy.

CASE #371 - This fake of Elisha Cuthbert from the TV series "24" is very similar to the Sandra Bullock fake in Case #344, and like that fake, it fools a lot of people.  It was done by the same faker: "Trillian".  His signature is on most versions of the fake.  But not everyone recognizes fakers’ signatures. The Fake Detective was considering just closing this case file with the head shot, but he wasn’t absolutely certain that the head shot he’d found was an exact match.  So, he asked Trillian for the body shot to complete the case.  When the body shot was supplied, it became clear that he hadn’t found the correct head shot.  Trillian then supplied the correct head shot.  It took a lot of bumbling around, but the case was finally closed.

Addendum:  Interestingly, the fake was printed as being a real picture in Celebrity Sleuth magazine.  The page is HERE.

CASE #372 - This fake of Courtney Thorne-Smith shows up in many collections of real pictures, but it’s just a typical fake from the faker known as "BadNewzBearz".  Since it’s signed and not a very unusual fake, we resisted turning it into a case file.  But it just keeps popping up among real pictures.  So, it eventually became time to make a case file of it.  Besides, we don’t have any other Courtney Thorne-Smith case files.  So, it was time for one.

CASE #373 - This fake of Jennifer Aniston was being shown around as being a fake created by pasting Jennifer’s head on the body of wrestling diva Stacy Kiebler.  But the Stacy Kiebler picture is a fake, too.  The original body shot belongs to Kim Holt and comes from Playboy.  Why anyone would think that Jennifer Aniston would pose that way is beyond me, but a lot of people are certainly fooled by that fake.  And by the Stacy Kiebler fake.

CASE #374 - This fake of Teri Hatcher has been around for years, and The Fake Detective has long resisted turning it into a case file because it is so crude and amateurish.  The head is clearly pasted on.  It’s a really bad job.  But, perhaps because it isn’t a nude, people just automatically assume that it’s real.  It certainly shows up in many collections of real pictures.  The Fake Detective is hoping that by making a case file of it, he’ll stop seeing the fake show up in collection after collection of real pictures of Teri Hatcher.

CASE #375 - This fake of Britney Spears is just a slight modification to a real picture has been raising a lot of questions for about a year, while also fooling some people who think that a fold in the material could be a nipple.  To correct those misconceptions, The Fake Detective usually points to other pictures of Britney in those same clothes that clearly show she is wearing a very tight bra that matches her top, so there’s no chance that she could pop a nipple.  The faker merely digitally filled in what the imagination was already filling in with the original.

CASE #376 - This fake of Jessica Biel would have been more believable a few years ago when people weren't so familiar with the techniques for making tops seem semi-transparent.  These days, picture collectors immediately look for flaws.  And this picture has a big flaw in the way the beige top turns to pure white at the edges where the underlying body shot didn't fit.  The line separating beige from white is too straight to match the folds in the material.  The faker could have cloned in that part, but he didn't.  As a result, only the people who just look at her nipples and who do not check the details are fooled.

CASE #377 - This fake of Angie Dickinson has been around for a long time.  It just never seemed worthy of creating a case file.  But we keep getting asked about it, and it’s apparently not going to go away.  Plus, we have no other case files of Angie, so that provides incentive to create one.  This seems to be the only fake of Angie that people believe.

CASE #378 - This fake of Lexa Doig is so simple that it’s interesting just because of how simple it is.  By merely removing her hand and replacing it with a breast, the faker created a fake that fools a lot of people.  Lexa Doig may never have posed this way, but who knows?  She's not that well known, beyond her role as "Andromeda" aka "Rommie" in the TV series "Andromeda".  She's done a few obscure movies, and did have topless scenes in the movies "No Alibi" and "The Tracker", so why not?  But so far all we've been able to find in the way of real posed pictures is a shot or two of her in see-through tops.

CASE #379 - This fake of Sara Michelle Gellar shouldn’t fool anyone, but it does - because it’s so well done.  The way the faker changed the skin tones and coloring to match the body shot is amazing.  The head shot and the look on her face match the pose perfectly - which is very often not the case.  The way he placed her head partially behind her hand is flawless.   And it's as sexy as hell without actually showing anything.  It's fakes like this that make the job of investigating fakes worthwhile.  It makes us feel like "art experts" instead of just guys who recognize fake boobs faster than most.

CASE #380 - This fake of Britney Spears is probably the best we’ve ever seen - so far.  Some of the best fakes aren't nudes.  And some are totally mind-blowing in their excellence.  This is one of them.  It's an absolutely beautiful picture.  Fans of Britney can probably be easily convinced that she might pose this way, since there is no nudity and since she’s started to pose for sexier and sexier pictures.  But the picture is a fake.  It’s a true work of art.  The way the faker changed the skin tones to make the head match the body match is fantastic.  It's a prime example of why fakers love their hobby.

CASE #381 - This fake of Eliza Dushku seems to be fooling people because it’s not far from what she has really posed for, and because it doesn’t really show anything.  Apparently people assume that, because her breasts are covered by her arms, no faker would bother to create such a tame fake.  But, if it causes the fake picture to be believable, that’s plenty reason for a faker to do it.

CASE #382 - This fake of Claudia Schiffer is the first we’ve seen in a long time, and for awhile we wondered if it might be real or not.  We’ve certainly seen Claudia’s bare breasts often enough - in paparazzi shots.  But, she hasn’t posed with her breasts fully exposed this way since she was very young, and she will probably never do it again.

CASE #383 - This fake of Pink had us wondering for awhile.  When we were first asked about it and couldn’t imagine that Pink would actually expose a breast to the camera that way, nor could we find any signs that it was Pink’s head pasted on someone else’s body.  When we located the real picture a few days later, we were totally surprised.  Of all the possible ways that the faker could have created the fake, we didn’t expect that he did it the way he did - by starting with a picture that seemed to demand that it be used to create a fake.  Why he didn’t remove all of the black thunderbolt, and why he didn’t give her a more believable nipple is something that puzzles us, and it cost the faker a few points.

CASE #384 - This fake of Courtney Love is the most believable one we’ve seen of her.  It’s easy to see why it fools people.  It’s certainly not a picture of her doing something we couldn't believe that she would ever do.  But when we noticed that the box of Wheat Thins on the table in the background is reversed, we began to get suspicious.  It didn’t take long to find the real head shot in our files.  The expression on her face is a bit unusual.  It's when we find 50 pictures that are all very similar that it becomes difficult to decide which head shot was actually used.  That's not the case here.

CASE #385 - This fake of Christina Aguilera was in our off-line Evidence Files for years, and we’d only show the real head and body shots when someone asked about the fake.  We didn’t create an "official" Case File for it for two reasons: (1) The fake was created by the well-known faker "Fredd38", and we wanted people to start recognizing his signature, so we’d sworn that we would never expose another fake of his.  And (2) when we first encountered this fake, Christina was a several years younger, and we didn’t feel comfortable showing a fake of her with bare breasts.  We knew her fans were even younger, and we didn’t want any of them copying the image from our web site.  But, times have changed, and so has Christina’s real-life image.  Today the fake is probably less believable because she doesn’t have the nipple rings everyone knows she wears.  So, it was finally time to create a case file for it.

CASE #386 - This fake of Jennifer Garner does a better job of illustrating how the mind of a faker works than any fake we’ve seen in years.  There can be no argument over which picture is a fake, since there are other shots of Jennifer in this same dress.  Plus, if her skirt were as transparent as the faker made it, we should be able to see the shadow of the rear hem.  It’s certainly one of the most subtle (and weird) fakes around, and the faker gets points for that.

CASE #387 - This fake of Demi Moore is evidently fooling people who seem to believe that if Demi would wear what she really wore, then she might wear what the faker shows.  It’s really a nicely done fake which begins with one of the large, sharp, paparazzi pictures which are now so abundant on the Net, and with just a few touches of faker expertise using a perfect match on skin tones and - presto change-o - a very believable fake.  Based upon real pictures we’ve seen, the faker even seems to have found a fairly good match to Demi’s real nipples.

Addendum:  Someone pointed out, however, that there is still a slight bump in the left side of her dress where her nipple would really be located.

Case #388 - This fake of Dawn Wells from "Gilligan’s Island" falls into the category called: "Why would anyone bother?"  Dawn Wells is a fairly common subject for fakery, but usually for typical fakery fare like totally unbelievable nudes.  This fake, however, was found in our files of real pictures.  So, technically it fooled us.  It’s not a very good fake, and it only fools people because it’s the type of fake that just doesn’t seem worth the bother.  But, if the objective is simply to fool people, it succeeds.  We thank "Droop-Along" for bringing it to our attention.

CASE #389 - This fake of Nikki Cox is apparently fooling people because the breasts are about the right size - based upon what she’s actually displayed when wearing dresses with low and open necklines.  In addition, it’s a nice job of matching skin tones and lighting conditions, while at the same time putting her face behind the hand of the body shot and getting the shadow of the hand just right.  That’s something the typical faker finds very difficult to do.

CASE #390 - This fake of Angelina Jolie seems to fill a need for a certain type of faker.  If the celebrity is wearing a low cut dress, they need to see what it would look like if a breast or nipple popped out.  This one is typical.  It fools people because such things do happen, just not as often as they think - or would like.

CASE #391 - This fake of Britney Spears has flooded my e-mail in-box for days in May of 2004.  I thought it was probably a composite fake, but I couldn’t find any real pictures of Britney in profile with a unsmiling look on her face, much less the exact matching head shot, so I couldn’t prove it.  But then someone posted two other shots of the same woman to a newsgroup, and that solved it.  It’s not Britney, nor is it a composite fake.  It’s just a typical "look-alike fake" created by some prankster finding a picture of someone who looks a bit like the celebrity and saying it is the celebrity.  There’s no talent involved in that kind of fakery, just a desire to fool people.  The photographer, Eric Striffler, verified that the pictures were taken by him and are of a professional model, and not Britney Spears.

CASE #392 - This fake of Jamie Lee Curtis appears to be fooling people because a real posed picture of Jamie Lee posing topless - well, actually with only one breast exposed - appeared on the Net some time back.  And, if there’s one such picture around, why not more?  But it’s just another fake.

CASE #393 - This fake of Paige Davis seems to confirm that virtually every celebrity gets faked sooner or later - even someone as unlikely as the host of a show on The Discovery Channel about home redecorating called "Trading Spaces".  And this isn’t the only fake we’ve seen of Paige.  We’ve seen many.  This one is just the only one that fools people, probably because it’s not a nude and she’s exposed a lot more flesh in real pictures.

CASE #394 - This fake of Laura San Giacomo is evidently fooling a lot of people because it appears to be exactly what they’ve been waiting for - a shot of Laura showing off her cleavage.  But it’s just a fake by a faker who calls himself "Salty Dog".  He did a nice job of getting the curls in her hair moved from one background to another without too many obvious indications of fakery.  And he seems to have found a body shot where the breasts are about the right size - or the size everyone imagines Laura’s breasts to be.

CASE #395 - This fake of Gillian Anderson is really well done, although one might argue that her hair doesn’t seem right on her left side.  Plus, everyone who has seen her breasts in movies knows that they are bigger than that and more mature. But the match of body shot to head shot, and the perfect match on lighting says this is a very good fake (by Salty Dog) and definitely falls within the top 5 percent of the 6 or 8 thousand fakes of Gillian on the Net.

CASE #396 - This fake of Jaqueline Bisset seems to be the pride and joy of some faker who continues to post it all over the Net as if it were a great work of art.  But it’s not.  He actually left an ear from the body shot in the picture making it look like she either has two ears on her left side or she has large pointy ears like Mr. Spock from Star Trek.  He’s since corrected that error, but, because he continues to post it everywhere, we continue to get asked about it.  Personally, we think Jacqueline has a better body than that - probably even today.

CASE #397 - This fake of The Olsen Twins seems incredibly silly, and we cannot understand why anyone would believe it’s real, yet we’ve been bombarded with questions about it for over a month.  Although the Twins just turned 18 and we’ve been reluctant to create Case Files for any celebrities that young, there doesn’t seem to be any choice about this one.  It’s either create a Case File, or continue to be bombarded with questions by people wanting to know if it’s real or not, and if it’s a fake how come we haven’t created a case file for it.  Does anyone really believe that the Olsen Twins would pose that way and that everyone in the world wouldn’t know about it?

CASE #398 - This fake of Gwen Stefani is evidently fooling people because they believe that Gwen might actually do such a thing.  But it’s just a fake.  The fake was created by someone who calls himself "Dr. Heinz", and he did a fairly good job of removing nearly all traces of her top around the individual pearls of her necklace - a very difficult thing to do.  Evidently proud of his work, he also put his signature on the inside of her jacket.  However, he appears to have given her bigger breasts than she really has.  But, nearly all fakers have a tendency to do that.

CASE #399 - This fake of Denise Richards may have been around for a long time, but when she appeared nude in the December 2004 issue of Playboy, this fake of her appeared in many collections as being a real picture from that photo shoot.  It’s very well done and certainly very believable, but a careful examination shows that it’s signed in the upper right corner by the well-known faker "Fredd38".  So, it’s just another fake.

CASE #400 - These fakes of Britney Spears are fooling a lot of people.  Ordinarily, the idea of having a topless shot of Britney on the cover of a magazine would make the fake totally unbelievable and drastically reduce it’s rating.  But, because there are four fakes to the set, and they all appear to be from the same photo shoot, they tend to verify each other.  While it’s been done before (see Cases #166 & #244), it’s still very rare and unusual.  The faker also displayed a sense of humor by changing the name of the magazine from "Blender" to "Blunder".  Plus, he demonstrated some real skill by removing Britney’s bra while leaving her jewelry and hair in place.  The overall skill involved, combined with the sense of humor, makes this case worthy of being the final entry in Book #4.
