CASE #201- This fake of Jeri Ryan is very interesting in the way just the face was pasted on the body shot to create it. None of the hair and not even the ear is really Ms Ryan’s. This fake is probably a good example of how little of a real head shot is needed to create a fake, while at the same time being a very well-done fake. We thank "Chess" for supplying the body shot.

CASE #202 - This fake of Markie Post is a bit different from standard fakes. The faker apparently liked the original picture but wanted to see what Ms Post looked like showing a bit more leg. So, he found someone else’s legs and created the fake to do just and only that. It’s fairly well done and certainly can be easily passed off as real.

CASE #203 - This fake of Cameron Diaz has apparently fooled a lot of people. It appears to be one of a series of paparazzi pictures taken of her on vacation with Matt Dillon, but this one has been altered. While Ms Diaz has posed topless fairly often, as far as we know she has never posed "bottom- less". As a result, The Fake Detective immediately suspected this as being a fake.

CASE #204 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt seems to be fooling a lot of people, but it’s just another fake. As far as we know, Ms Hewitt has never posed topless, and while this is a fairly well-done fake, we find it difficult to understand how so many people can believe that Ms Hewitt would pose this way and thereby accept this fake as real. We can only assume that they are just hoping it is a real picture.

CASE #205 - This fake of Angie Harmon (from "Baywatch Nights" and "C-16") seems to be fooling a lot of people only because Angie is not that well-known and most people do not know whether she would pose for such pictures or not. There is no reason to believe that she would pose for such pictures, but we have found that Angie did do a nude scene in a movie called "Lawn Dogs". Posing for nudes and doing a nude scene in a movie are very different things, and we still doubt that Angie would ever pose in the nude.

Addendum: After we closed this case in September of 1998, Angie Harmon has become better known by starring in the popular TV series "Law And Order", and although we never expected her to do a nude scene in a movie, she did do the one in "Lawn Dogs". Time marches on. So we had to change the text.

CASE #206 - This fake of Lisa Rinna reaches a new area of weirdness. Someone erased her 5-months of pregnancy in order to see what she looked like before that condition. Fakers are certainly putting digital manipulation to new uses!

CASE #207 - This fake of Monica Seles is really badly done, probably one of the worst fakes we’ve ever exposed, yet it’s another fake we keep getting asked about. We cannot understand why anyone would accept it as real. However, Mathieu Roger from France finally convinced us that we should make a case file of it just to stop the endless questions. It’s not real, folks! Believe us! It’s not real!

CASE #208 - This fake of Teri Hatcher fooled The Fake Detective - to a degree. While he never for a moment considered it to be a real picture of Ms Hatcher, he did think it was a "look-alike" fake, i.e. just a picture of someone who looks a bit like Ms Hatcher. However, when Bill Brewer showed us the real body shot it was immediately clear that it is a standard paste-up fake, although well-done enough to show no signs of the cutting and pasting.

CASE #209 - This Fake of Jennifer Aniston is fooling a lot of people. It’s very well done and very reminiscent of the Anna Kournikova cases (#197 & #198) where the same thing was done in black and white. In this case the artist gains a point for doing his work in color but loses a point for making the underside of her right breast equally visible through the hanging piece of cloth - where little or nothing of the breast should be visible. Tsk tsk. If the piece of cloth is that transparent, why aren’t the tips of her fingers also visible?

CASE #210 - This fake of Paulina Porizkova is very nicely done. It’s certainly fooled plenty of people, and we can see why. Even the image in the mirror was changed, and the finished result is as sharp and clear as the original. Very impressive.

CASE #211 - This fake of Renee O’Connor (Xena’s friend Gabrielle) is one of several that have fooled many people, while at the same time angering many of Ms O’Connor’s fans. It’s a well-done fake using a fairly rare head shot. While we’ve had a small version of the real head shot for some time, it wasn’t until Kyra O’Neil sent us the real body shot that The Fake Detective felt we could finally close this case. As far as we know, Ms O’Connor has never posed nude.

CASE #212 - This fake of Sandra Bullock doesn’t seem very believable to The Fake Detective (Sandra’s breasts are neither this shape nor this size), but the added text was apparently enough to fool a lot of people, and it is now appearing on various sites as being real. The fake was created by a faker known as "Devon Hart" who also fooled many people with the very similar fake of Salma Hayek we exposed as Case #183. Hart deliberately tries to fool people, and he’s pretty good at it.

CASE #213 - This fake of Elizabeth Hurley is nothing exceptional, but it appears to be somewhat believable because Ms Hurley has posed for topless pictures before - and she’s been caught "bottomless" by paparazzi a few times. However, deliberately posing for "full frontal nudity" photographs does not seem to be something she has ever done.

CASE #214 - This fake of Brooke Shields is somewhat unusual. The Fake Detective spotted it immediately by knowing that Brooke did not appear nude in "The Blue Lagoon". She used a "body double" for all nude scenes. The faker ("Graphic Response") may not have known this as he created a composite from video captures of two different shots. The fake could be a one-of-a-kind and gets extra points for that, countering the loss of points because Christopher Atkins (the guy "alone" on the island with Brooke) could not put his two hands in this position without also being transparent to the movie camera.

CASE #215 - This fake of Jewel was never thought to be real by The Fake Detective, nor probably by many others, since Jewel would never pose this way, but we did think it was a "look-alike fake" instead of a routine composite fake. When "Fire007" pointed out that it was indeed a composite fake with the lower body replaced instead of the head, we decided it was worth creating a Case File to show it as another example of ingenuity in the art of fakery.

CASE #216 - This fake of Claudia Schiffer is both nicely done and fairly unusual. It’s easy to see why it is fooling so many people. In fact, even The Fake Detective wasn’t totally positive that it was a fake until he managed to hunt down the original. His only basis for beginning the hunt was the old saying: "If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t true."

CASE #217 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar has fooled many people and is also an excellent example of how little of the real face is needed to create a fake. The right ear, the right jaw line and the strand of hair on the center of her forehead belong to the body shot. The faker "Regular Joe" signed the fake in a nearly unnoticeable way, but since Sarah has never posed in the nude, it didn’t fool The Fake Detective for a minute. However, we admire the artistry, and the only complaint we have is that Buffy would never have hair frizzies.

Case #218 - This fake of Crystal Bernard is undoubtedly the best we’ve ever seen of her, and so many people asked us about it that we began to think there was a campaign underway to force us to create a case file for it. But we realize it’s just that everyone hoped it was real. Not only has Crystal never posed in the nude, but we don’t think she’s ever posed for a sexier shot than the real head shot that was used. We thank "Dutch" from Holland for assisting us to close this case.

Addendum: When the well-known faker "BadNewzBearz" discovered that we had used one of his fakes in a case file, he sent us the original fake to show that he had properly identified it as being a fake by including both his logo and the logo for the "Pooporazzi", a group of fakers to which he belongs. The original fake is HERE to show how it looked before it was cropped by someone else.

CASE #219 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar is excellent. It is almost totally believable and extremely well done. We can only wonder about the amount of effort required to so painstakingly replace an opaque bra with one that seems semitransparent. If we hadn’t had the original picture in our files for years, and if it wasn’t so unlikely that Sarah Michelle would pose this way, we might have been fooled, too.

CASE #220 - This fake of Laura San Giacomo caused some heated debate in the offices of The Fake Detective. To The Fake Detective’s trained eye, the fake head looks absurdly small. Laura is a very small woman with a proportionately larger head than on a larger woman. On this fake she seems to be a six-footer. The rest of us feel that the fake is well done and the head size is not that noticeable. The fake may have been rated too low, but The Fake Detective is the boss on this.

CASE #221 - This fake of Gillian Anderson gets ALL of its points for originality. No artistry is involved, and The Fake Detective detests look-alike fakes, but this is the first time we’ve seen real video captures of one actress combined with real video captures of another actress in an attempt to fool people. The faker tried to foist the combination off as being a "European version" of a bathtub scene done by Gillian Anderson for "The X-Files", but any movie fan and any collector of real pictures would recognize Virginia Madsen immediately. (The top 6 pictures are Gillian Anderson, the bottom 3 pictures are Virginia Madsen.)

CASE #222 - This fake of Amy Jo Johnson (The Pink Power Ranger) is pretty bad, but it for years it has been distributed around the Net as being real. We never bothered to create a Case File for it because we’ve always thought it and all other nudes of Amy Jo were very obvious fakes. But apparently many Power Rangers fans are gullible enough to believe almost anything. We’re hoping that by making a Case File of it the questions and postings will now cease. Fat chance!

CASE #223 - This fake of Fay Wray only recently appeared on the Net, but we found it amusing enough to use as an example of the art of fakery. It was created by a faker known as "Mr. C" and we are grateful to "Lagit" for his assistance in obtaining the real pictures. Clearly there is no known limit to what celebrity images people want to fake.

CASE #224 - This fake of Jennifer Aniston is another example of a small woman’s head looking far too small when placed on a larger woman’s body. While it looks totally silly to us, it has apparently fooled a lot of people and appears often on fan web sites.

Addendum:  On June 14, 2001, over two years after we first exposed it, someone brought to our attention the fact that this fake was still in wide circulation.  In fact, it was being offered for sale on AMAZON.COM.  Click HERE to view the advertisment.

CASE #225 - These fakes of Dr. Laura Schlessinger (a conservative radio talk show host) were probably inevitable once the real nudes of her appeared on the Net and she went to court to file an injunction to try to stop their distribution. Supposedly, Dr. Laura first claimed that all 11 of the original nudes were fakes, but it soon became clear that they were not. And a judge quickly lifted the injunction, too. It’s not the first time we’ve exposed fakes where clothes were added, but these are still plenty unusual. We’ve been asked many times if the real pictures of Dr. Laura were real, but for some reason no one ever asked us if the fakes were fakes - but we’re exposing them anyway.

CASE #226 - This fake of actress Judith Light has been around for years and has fooled many people. It’s fairly well done, but there seems to be something missing where her right ear meets her jaw line. A crease in the neck might have helped. We’ve had the head shot for a long time, but when we were once again asked about this fake, we decided it was time to make a Case File of it.

CASE #227 - This fake of Shania Twain is somewhat believable - enough to see why some people are fooled by it. At least the faker didn’t paint the nipple onto the part of the breast that was already visible and make her look deformed. Instead, he digitally moved the edge of her neckline down a bit so he could paint the nipple in the right place. That makes this fake better than average.

CASE #228 - This fake of Mariah Carey had The Fake Detective rolling on the floor laughing. He’s very sensitive to heads that are too small. The fake doesn’t look all that strange to the rest of us, but to FD it looks like "she’s been to a head shrinker". However, we all agree that the artist did a nice job of turning the entire fake into sepia tones.

CASE #229 - These fakes of Gillian Anderson are very unusual, and have fooled many people. The artist took two pictures of some unknown woman photographed in an office setting (wearing clothes that Gillian Anderson might wear) and pasted on two different head shots of Gillian taken at an autograph session. The results are two pictures that seem to verify each other. It is easy to see why they have fooled so many people. But both pictures are just very good fakes.

Addendum: "Storm Trooper", the creator of the Case #229 fakes contacted The Fake Detective to state that his original fakes included his signature and properly identified the pictures as being fakes. Someone else removed that information in order to present the images around the Internet as being real. The original body shots are available for view in a supplement HERE.

CASE #230 - This fake of Janet Jackson is very well done, and it’s easy to see how it can fool a lot of people. The artist did an excellent job of adding the breasts of someone else into a picture of Janet and blending the skin tones almost perfectly. However, real nudes of Janet Jackson are very rare, which made this one immediately suspicious to The Fake Detective.

CASE #231 - This fake of Barbara Eden has been in circulation for at least a year, and the Fake Detective keeps getting asked about it. With all the real "Oops!" pictures around, it’s easy to see why this one could be believed. However, it’s just another fake.

CASE #232 - These fakes of Michelle Pfeiffer are from an "animated gif" movie.  The artist took a series of video captures and modified many of them to create a short fake "movie", one of the first we’ve seen.  It must have taken the artist a lot of time and effort to modify each of the images, and we give him points for his efforts. It makes us wonder if this fake could be a sign of a coming New Age of Fakery involving movies.  The only thing preventing it is the amount of time and effort involved - but some people apparently have the time to spend on altering many individual images to create a fake "movie".  We thank "deNada" for his assistance on this case.

CASE #233 - This fake of Madonna has been in circulation for years, and we’ve avoided exposing it, since it isn’t the type of fake we like to deal with.  However, because of Madonna’s book "Sex", a lot of people think this picture could be real.  It’s not.  It’s just a picture of a look-alike with a mole painted on to make her look more like Madonna.  By exposing this fake, we hope to avoid being asked about it every time someone posts it to some newsgroup or web site.

CASE #234 - This fake of Catherine Zeta-Jones is one of several we’ve been asked about.  The Fake Detective chose to expose it because it’s the most believable of the bunch.  It’s a fairly routine fake, but while the faker did a good job of time removing her bra strap, her nipple just looks too small or too faked.

CASE #235 - These fakes of Cheryl Ladd are from another animated gif "movie" (see also Case #232) created by digitally altering a series of images taken from a real video clip.  It didn’t take much technique to eliminate Cheryl’s almost invisible pink bikini, but we give points for originality and effort.  It’s still one of the first of this type of fake that we’ve seen.  We thank "Sockpuppet" for his assistance in helping us find the original images.

CASE #236 - This fake of Annabeth Gish has been in wide circulation for years, and it is the only picture of "Annabeth" in many collections.  But, she's not Annabeth.  The Fake Detective became suspicious when it seemed that the only picture of Annabeth Gish in circulation was a nude.  We thank "Xmarksthespot" for making the identification.  The woman is actually Marguerite Empey, a Playboy Playmate of the Month from May of 1955 and February of 1956.  Someone just put Annabeth's name on the picture.  Since that requires neither talent nor imagination, we rank this type of fakery very low.

CASE #237 - This fake of Renee O’Connor (from "Xena The Warrior Princess") is being exposed to illustrate three points about fakery:  First, the faker "Fredd38" has signed his work, which is supposed to identify it to everyone as a fake.  Second, on this fake he followed a growing trend of blending his "signature mark" into the fake; he placed it on the sleeve of the T-shirt which might make it less noticeable.  Third, "Fredd38" is a prolific faker who has hundreds of fakes, and we constantly get asked about many of them.  So, by showing his mark, we’re hoping that people will begin to recognize his signature and know that any picture that includes the "Fredd38" mark is almost certainly a fake.

CASE #238 - This fake of Patricia Arquette fooled many people, but The Fake Detective immediately recognized the signature of "Zeke", a well-known faker who has created hundreds of fakes.  We decided to expose this fake in hopes that people will begin recognizing his signature.  It’s also an excellent example of fakery.  How he put the body behind the mesh is anybody’s guess, but it undoubtedly took a lot of effort.  We thank "Zeke" for his assistance with this case.

CASE #239 - This fake of Salma Hayek is excellent - almost flawless - and it’s easy to understand how it can fool people.  Only the fact that The Fake Detective had never seen any similar pictures of Salma before caused him to investigate.  It’s really an impressive job.

CASE #240 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar is just too good.  We don’t even know how the tank top was made to appear transparent while still retaining the pattern in the material.  However it was done, it was excellently done.  We congratulate the unknown faker for this one.  The belly button and curves of the stomach are truly amazing examples of fakery.

Addendum: After closing this case file we received some clues as to how this fake may have been created.  It appears to have been done by creating a "transparency" of the tank top and laying it over a body shot (or parts of several body shots).  Go HERE for visual details.

CASE #241 - This fake of Christina Applegate is actually four video captures from a faked movie clip that probably contains dozens of individual movie frames.  While we’ve exposed fake "animated gif" movies before as Cases #232 and #235, this is an example of a higher level of movie fakery.  Animated gifs may have as few as 5 frames per second, while a real movie usually has 24 frames per second.  With that number of frames to change, we can only imagine the amount of work required to create a fake movie - even one that lasts only a few seconds.  And on some of the others it was necessary to find a "body shot" clip that would correctly match the "head shot" clip for as long as 10 seconds - and then to extract the body shot from the rest of the scene before placing it over the celebrity’s body.  That can’t be easy.  So far, we’ve seen only about a half dozen such movies, but they are undoubtedly the first of many to come.  We picked this one for a Case File because it is the least pornographic of the bunch, and we thank "LegMan" for his assistance.

CASE #242 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar has fooled a lot of people even though the nipple is just too visible - particularly the areola.  Moreover, under close inspection, the fake nipple bump seems to have a different bit pattern than the rest of the dress, and it’s also a slightly different color.  Plus there’s the fact that SMG seems to be wearing a strapless bra, which makes it’s unlikely that the shape of her left areola would appear so clearly.  For some reason, there is also a fake in circulation that has the real nipple bump smoothened out.  We thank "CylnZ" and "Spy" for helping us find the original, unaltered picture.  This type of fake - where just a nipple outline is added - is becoming a very common form of fakery.

CASE #243 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar continues to fool people, and we keep getting asked about it.  The nipple is just painted on, and the faker didn’t even do a very good job of it.  But the fact that it is a video capture of a scene where the "nipple slip" might have happened apparently make this fake more believable that it should be.  We thank "RichieH" and "Gandalf" for helping us find the real video captures.

CASE #244 - These fakes of Claudia Christian are fairly new to the Internet but might easily fool people who assume they are all  from a single photo shoot.  There are 20 pictures in the series created by the faker known as "Guntcher", and most are very well done.  Unlike a similar "strip tease" series exposed as Case #166, these fakes were distributed as individual pictures, making it easier for one picture to be used as "proof" that another picture is real.  None are.  They just demonstrate that no rule for detecting fakes works every time.

CASE #245 - This fake of Gwyneth Paltrow seems to be fooling a lot of people, probably because it’s a very subtle fake.  Gwyneth has done nude scenes in movies; she’s posed in racy lingerie; there are candid totally nude photographs of her taken by paparazzi using telescopic lenses; and she’s worn nearly transparent dresses to public functions; but, in spite of all that, she’s still another actress who has apparently never actually posed in the nude for still photographs - even to this degree.  As fuzzy as that line may be, most actresses still do not cross it.

CASE #246 - This fake of Linda Thorson brings back memories for a lot of people who might also be hoping that the picture is real.  It’s not.  Linda played "Tara King", who was the replacement for Diana Rigg’s "Emma Peel" on "The Avengers".  It’s a very good fake and just the right pose for those with good memories of what they actually saw and what they wished they had seen back in 1968 and 1969.

CASE #247 - This fake of Russian figure skater Oksana Baiul is in wide circulation, and we’ve been asked by many people to expose it - even though the fake is nearly always shown side by side with the real picture.  Many people have sent us the fake together with the original (plus other originals from the same Esquire Magazine photo shoot used to create other fakes).  The Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda also sent them to us and urged us to expose the fake.  We remained reluctant, since we didn’t think anyone was really fooled, but then Fox TV also brought it to our attention during an interview for a special about ice skaters, we finally decided it was worth a Case File.  We don’t know how many people have been actually fooled by the fakes, but a lot of people really want us to point out that Oksana Baiul does not pose in the nude.

CASE #248 - This fake of Winona Ryder has been around for years, and we’ve been asked about it many times.  But it’s a difficult fake to prove to be a fake, even when seen side by side with the real picture.  The faker must have spent hours moving the left arm and changing the position of the fingers on the right hand, as well as the expression on Winona’s face, just to make it look like a different shot from the same photo shoot.  However, careful evaluation - particularly as done by "Blue Dragon" - shows that body parts were digitally moved without altering angles or the connected body parts.  But "the smoking gun" evidence is the early version of the fake distributed before the facial expression was changed.  Having two separate fakes that show movement of some parts of the body without any movement of the hair or water or shoulders or the rest of the body makes them fakes "beyond a reasonable doubt".

CASE #249 - This fake of Kathie Lee Gifford is a very close call.  Is it really a fake?  We know that Kathie Lee did appear on her show in a dress that displayed her nipple bumps very clearly.  (She’s done it many times, but this was probably the most visible instance.)  But did the "faker" merely adjusted the color to make her areolas more visible on the "fake", or did he actually retouch the photograph to enhance the areolas?  It’s very difficult to tell.  Either way, people watching her show did not see what is shown in the "fake".

CASE #250 - This fake of Christina Applegate fooled us - for awhile.  At first we thought it was from Christina’s new show "Jesse", where she frequently wears clothes that show nipple bumps.  Even when people told us it was from "Married With Children", we didn’t see any real reason to believe that the picture was a fake.  But, when "Noidguy" showed us other video captures from the same scene, it became clear that the original capture is a fake - even though it is sharper and clearer than the real video captures.  The nipple bumps don’t show up even slightly on any of the real captures, and we haven’t seen any other captures from this scene that show nipple bumps, so we have to conclude that the first picture is a fake.

CASE #251 - This fake of Christina Ricci is fooling a lot of people and seems to be on a lot of web sites.  However, it’s just a fairly small black-and-white fake - although nicely done and more believable than most.  We thank "XMarksTheSpot" for helping us find the real picture.

CASE #252 - This fake of Amy Grant would have passed us by completely if "Metron" had not pointed it out to us.  Since the fake only shows a glimpse of panty-hose, we wonder why anyone would go to the time and trouble to create such a fake.  But, obviously, there are some who will go to any lengths to fool people and to create titillating fakes of their favorite celebrities.  With paparazzi on the lookout for such shots and snapping away at every public event, we just assumed that one of them got lucky.  This one isn’t real, but it’s a wonder that no real pictures like this have shown up anywhere.

CASE #253 - This fake of Alicia Silverstone was a topic of discussion from the moment it first appeared on the Net.  Most assumed it wasn’t real, but a debate raged over whether it was a composite fake or a "look-alike".  After careful examination, it seemed clear to The Fake Detective that only parts of Alicia’s face were used to create the fake, but when the real head shot was placed next to the fake, many didn’t accept it and still believed it was a look-alike not a composite fake.  So, the real body shot had to be found in order to prove it and close this case.  We thank "Doc" for providing the body shot.

CASE #254 - This fake of Fiona Apple is a fairly typical fake, and there isn’t much unusual about it - except for the subject.  Most people are fooled simply because they don’t really know whether Fiona would actually pose for a picture like this or not.  There’s no reason to believe that she would.  If she did, there would probably be a lot more such pictures around.  There aren’t, so apparently she doesn’t.

CASE #255 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar (and her costar Alison Hannigan) shouldn’t fool anyone, since the expressions on their faces certainly do not match with such a prankish pose.  But the well-known faker who signs his work as "Sparky" seems to fool a lot of people with his excellent fakes.  We’re exposing this one mainly to point out an example of Sparky’s work in hopes that more people will remember his signature and, as a result, fewer people will be fooled by him.

CASE #256 - This fake of Margaret Colin is being exposed mainly to point out the signature of an excellent faker who calls himself "LaGrange-5", but also because Ms Colin is one of our favorite actresses, because she has never posed nude, and because this fake vividly illustrates why fakers enjoy their work.  We are frequently asked about many of the hundreds of fakes that LaGrange-5 has created, and we hope that by pointing out his signature everyone will more readily recognize it and know his pictures are all fakes.

CASE #257 - This fake of Natalie Imbruglia may not be fooling many people, but we still get asked about it because people want to point out that the image in the mirror is not reversed.  The faker did excellent work in replacing Natalie’s body with someone else’s, but apparently reversing the mirror image was just too much work and he didn’t bother with it.

CASE #258 - This fake of Charlize Theron fooled The Fake Detective.  Charlize has posed for similar nude shots which were printed in Playboy and which are in wide circulation on the Internet, so there was no reason to question this fake.  But we thank Hansen Smith for questioning it and assisting us in exposing it.  The fake is nicely done and totally believable, but the question still remains: Why would anyone create a fake like this when there are better real shots around?

CASE #259 - This fake of Alanis Morissette apparently fooled a lot of people, probably because Alanis has feigned nudity in at least one of her music videos, but it’s just a basic composite fake.  The head shot was flipped in order to making the lighting match the body shot.

CASE #260 - This fake of Denise Richards has fooled many people, and we’ve been asked about it many times.  But it’s probably just wishful thinking, since, as far as we know, Denise has never posed for any real nude photographs.  It’s just a basic composite fake with Denise’s head pasted on the body of some nude model, but it’s in many collections as being real.

Addendum: Denise Richards posed nude for the December 2004 issue of Playboy, so, the wishful thinkers behind this case from May of 2000 eventually got their wishes.

CASE #261 - This fake of Vanna White has fooled quite a few people, but The Fake Detective has seen enough pictures of Vanna in semi-transparent lingerie to know that she doesn’t dye all of her hair blonde.  While we’ve had the real picture in our files for awhile, we’ve been reluctant to close this case because the red panties look a bit fake, too.  We’re probably just being paranoid when we worry if someone may have painted panties on the fake to create another fake - and that the real picture with Vanna wearing the real panties may still be on the Web somewhere.

CASE #262This fake of Christina Ricci shouldn’t have fooled anyone, since it’s clearly a video capture and everyone would know if she had done a nude scene in any movie.  But many people still asked about it. It’s a video capture from her movie "The Opposite Of Sex" expanded to include someone else’s breasts below the original frame of the picture. In it’s way it is somewhat believable as well as being a bit unusual.

Addendum: Surprisingly, as soon as I posted this case file I started getting messages from people who felt that the video capture could still be real, but from a different version of the movie that wasn't cropped to exclude the breasts.   If so, why aren't there more video captures?  Why only this one shot?  The answer: Because it's a fake.  If it was real we'd have a whole sequence in circulation, along with the movie clip.

CASE #263 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt is signed by the faker, which usually means we won’t bother to expose it, but this faker is not well-known and his signature can’t be distinguished from the logo of a typical scanner.  So, people can’t tell if it’s a fake or not just by the signature.  And, except for the misspelling of Ms Hewitt's name, it’s not a fake that is so badly done or far-fetched as to be unbelievable for other reasons.  Putting the face behind the hand demonstrates a lot of expertise at the art of fakery.

CASE #264This fake of Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been around for many years, and while it’s not a very good nor very unusual fake, it has fooled many people and is in many collections of "real" pictures.  The Fake Detective originally thought it was a look-alike, but "Just Leif" found the body shot in a magazine.  Because he didn’t have a scanner, we had to create Wanted Poster #43 to find someone who could scan it for us.  "Big Earl" was able to do that, and we thank both of them for their assistance in helping us to finally close this old case file.

CASE #265 - This fake of Jennifer Lopez was altered before being printed in the Sept./Oct. issue of Notorious Magazine.  Because the picture scanned from the magazine was in wide circulation on the Net, we never bothered to examine it closely.  But then someone showed us the real picture and asked if a nipple had been added to create a fake.  It was immediately evident that we’d had a fake in our collection, and the picture showing the nipple and part of the right arm was the real version.  The magazine had not only sloppily smudged out the nipple to conform with American tastes, but they had also trimmed and reshaped some of Jennifer’s famous ample butt to create another questionable bit of fakery.

CASE #266 - This fake of Drew Barrymore is another example of a magazine printing an altered picture to conform to American tastes.  In this one, however, the changes are really skillfully done.  When Detlef Wirsing sent us large, sharp copies of both pictures, we realized we had another fake in our collection.  The picture that shows the nipple hidden by the wrestler’s hand is in wide distribution.  We had never seen the version that shows the nipple before, but when one picture is laid over the top of the other it becomes clear that only the sumo wrestler’s left hand has been altered.  It’s been moved forward and upward to cover Drew’s right nipple - creating a hand that is very large and has an immense little finger - but it is still a very well done "professional" fake.

ADDENDUM:  It's also interesting that when the magazine editor moved the hand to cover Drew's nipple, he or she also did a good job of smoothening out the blubber on the sumo wrestler's legs.

CASE #267 - This fake of Kate Winslet fooled The Fake Detective, not because he thought it was real, but because he thought it was someone else - a "look-alike".  He may have been thrown off by the fact that the face on the fake seems to be shortened a bit.  It wasn’t until a fan insisted that it was Kate’s face that we looked around for the real head shot and quickly found it.  The individual strands near the part in her hair are identical, as are the eyes, so there’s no doubt about it.  The fake has been in circulation for years and has apparently fooled a lot of people, so it’s time to make a case file of it.

CASE #268 - This fake of Natalie Portman shouldn’t really fool anyone, but we’ve been asked about it many many times.  Apparently, since Natalie was caught topless by a paparazzi photographer on the Caribbean island of St. Barts, some people think that she might also pose for the cover of Hustler Magazine.  That’s a big leap in logic.  The fake was created by a well-known faker who calls himself "Fireman", but the version of the fake that we’re asked about most often is smaller, so you can’t easily read the signature on her arm, and the signature of his faker group "The Pooporazzi" is trimmed off.

CASE #269 - This fake of Wendie Malick (from "Just Shoot Me") may not have fooled many people, but when The Fake Detective was asked about it he figured it could be a good illustration of the increasingly popular faker’s technique of making part of a celebrity’s picture semi-transparent and putting part of someone else’s body under it to make it seem that you can see through the celebrity’s clothes.  In this situation, the faker also provided a false text to explain the picture, but misspelled Wendie’s name, so it isn’t very convincing.  Other mistakes just made it worse - like forgetting to allow the new background to be seen though the crook in her arm.  Tsk tsk.

CASE #270This fake of Grace Kelly has been around for a couple years or more, but we haven’t been able to find the head shot to expose it.  We don’t know if anyone actually fell for this scam, and we’ve always considered it to be a fairly obvious fake and not very well done.  When people started asking about it again, The Fake Detective decided it was time to expose it.  We created Wanted Poster #47 and got an almost immediate response from "Frodo", who provided the head shot.  We thank "Frodo" for his assistance.

CASE #271This fake of Britney Spears has been offered for sale on the E-bay auction site which makes it a bit unusual.  And it isn’t a nude, which is even more unusual.  The artist did a lot of work around her face, so we couldn’t just use the head shot as sufficient proof.  We had to create Wanted Poster #49 to find the body shot, and Dean Adams and "AFX2000" supplied it within a few hours.  We thank them for their assistance.  Britney’s neck seems too short, and the fake shows a lot of retouching work.  That cost a lot of points.

CASE #272This fake of Gillian Anderson fooled The Fake Detective for a long time, mainly because it has been so widely accepted by Gillian’s fans, because it’s on so many fan web sites and because there are so many stories about how Gillian Anderson has discussed it and verified it.  But when some doubters began to question it and even claimed it was actually an Italian impersonator and there were other pictures of her around, we created Wanted Poster #46 to find those pictures.  "A Wisconsonian" responded with a picture that seems close enough to convince us that the woman in the picture is NOT Gillian Anderson.

ADDENDUM: One other major factor that convinced us that this is not Gillian Anderson is the hair color.   Gillian Anderson has red hair.  In the "fake" it might have been the lighting, but when we have two pictures to look at, it becomes clear that this woman does not have the same color hair as Gillian.

However, a lot of people would like to see more proof.  If you have other shots of this woman in this location - and/or an explanation of what was going on - we'd like to see them.

For a long time, the only other picture we had just raised more questions.  To view that picture, click HERE.  Fortunately, someone finally provided us with some original scans from the Feb 1994 issue of "Leg Show" magazine that proves it's a look-alike fake.  Parts of that article are shown HERE.

CASE #273 - This fake of Charlene Tilton (from the "Dallas" TV series) is one of a set of pictures of an insurance company audio-typist named Lucy Carter who was featured in Britain’s Mayfair Magazine as being a Charlene Tilton look-alike.  Someone scanned the pictures from the magazine and distributed them around the Web as being pictures of Charlene Tilton.  We thank "Baldric" for making the identification and supplying scans of pages from the magazine to help us close this case.

CASE #274 - This fake of model Naomi Campbell is another example of a fake created by professionals.  It was apparently created so the picture would conform to "American standards" and not shock little old ladies who might browse some magazine while waiting in line at a grocery store checkout.  Either the photographer or the magazine publisher apparently took the strip of material second to the bottom, duplicated it and placed the duplicate over the strategic area.  With a little additional touchup, it was made "acceptable".  But then they released the original to some source where it could be scanned for viewing on the Internet (where little old ladies are expected to be shocked by what they find).

CASE #275This fake of Cathy Lee Crosby has been in circulation for many years.  When it began appearing in many collections, The Fake Detective decided it was time to expose it.  "Pdqpig" quickly supplied the magazine and page number, but he couldn’t provide a scan.  "Scriber" provided the scan.  And "Interested Observer" found a second version that was too small to use, but we thank them all for their assistance in closing this long overdue case.

CASE #276This fake of Andie MacDowell puzzled The Fake Detective only because he couldn’t understand why it appeared in so many collections of real pictures.  Perhaps it looks like a video capture.  It isn’t.  It’s just a bad fake that’s been around for years.  The head is distorted, and the neck seems broken, but it still fooled people.  We thank "Charles from Quebec" for responding to Wanted Poster #42 with the real head shot, which is from the movie "Four Weddings And A Funeral".

CASE #277 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt appears to be fooling people.  While we think the head on the fake is a tad too small, we had a hard time finding the matching head shot to prove it is indeed a fake.  Jennifer seems to have a tendency to pose over and over in very similar poses.  This seems to be one of those fakes that people hope is real and that The Fake Detective will not disprove.  Sorry, but The Fake Detective can’t be responsible for shattered dreams.

Addendum:  As happens so often, shortly after we closed this case file by finding the real head shot, someone located and sent us the real body shot.  The main case file graphic seems large enough as is, so you can find a supplemental graphic with the real body shot HERE.

CASE #278 - This fake of Britney Spears is in the form of a video clip that seems to be very widely distributed around the Net, even though most copies of the clip begin with a title card that clearly states that the woman in the clip is French actress Arielle Dombasle.  The logo from French TV is also on the screen.  We’ve never seen so many people believing something that is so obviously false.  Clearly it’s the effect of wanting to believe and not wanting to ask questions.

CASE #279 - This fake of Sarah Michelle Gellar generated a lot of questions mainly because the "real" picture printed in the French version of FHM seems to show more of Sarah than is normally seen.  The cover of "Jump" not only replaced the entire background, but their editors also made her blouse seem totally opaque - causing some people to wonder if the blouse in the FHM shot wasn’t faked to appear transparent.  The editors of "Big Hit" magazine proved otherwise by leaving the original background and the sheerness of the blouse, but they still retouched the breast area, removed all trace of nipple and the provocative crease under her left breast.  However, the FHM magazine scan might also be slightly altered by adjusting the colors, brightness and contrast to show more clearly what is under her "nude underwear".  And isn’t flesh colored "nude underwear" also a form of fakery?  It’s getting so fakery is as common as real pictures these days.

ADDENDUM: There are numerous scans of the "real" picture from the French version of FHM.  Some people think some versions are fake, but it's only a color adjustment.  Four versions can be seen HERE.

CASE #280 - This fake of Christina Aguilera is the fake we’ve been asked about the most often, and it’s one of the better fakes of her around.  It’s an nice job of manipulating the material of her blouse and pasting in the body of someone else.  However, until now we’ve avoided making a Case File of it because, while Christina is currently 19 and "of age", she has many many fans who are a great deal younger.  That puts us in the position of displaying a fake that might upset some sensitive teenyboppers.  To avoid that, and to make certain everyone is aware that we EXPOSE fakes, we do not DISTRIBUTE fakes, we did some extra censoring on this one hoping to make it less valuable than an average Pokeman card.

CASE #281 - This fake of Anna Kournikova follows the pattern of some other "professional fakes" we’ve recently exposed.  An American magazine printed a censored version of the picture for American consumption, and a German magazine printed the uncensored version for European readers.  That makes the real picture more interesting than the fake.  Because of all the fakes around that show fake nipples slightly visible through the material of Anna’s clothing, a lot of people are scratching their heads over this one and wondering if it is another fake.  But we doubt that Germany’s "Tomorrow" Magazine would create a fake and put it on their cover.  That would be a good way to be forced out of business.

CASE #282 - This fake of Markie Post has begun appearing on the Net in many collections as being real.  It’s not.  While it’s signed by the faker "New Kid", his name is not that well-known (until now) and people don’t know if it’s the scanner’s name or a faker’s name.  He’s a faker.

CASE #283 - This fake of Gwyneth Paltrow is being exposed for slightly different reasons.  We’ve been contacted by people who assume that it is a fake, but they are so impressed by it that they just want to see the head shot so they can tell how it was created.  The Fake Detective was also very impressed with the alteration of skin tones and the absolute believability of this fake, so we decided it was worth a Case File.

CASE #284 - This fake of Rebecca Romijn-Stamos busts us up every time we get asked about it.  Maybe it’s just us, but it seems that the head is off-center, and that makes it look like she’s deformed, with her left arm growing out of her rib cage.  Too bad, since the well-known faker "Fredd38" did an excellent job transferring the body and even creating a believable reflection.  We had resisted creating case files for any more of his fakes, but we’ve been asked about this too often, we haven’t exposed any other fake of Rebecca, and there seem to be many versions of this fake around that have had Fredd38’s signature stripped off.

CASE #285 - This fake of Britney Spears has become a pain in the ass for The Fake Detective.  We’ve been asked about it at least a hundred times, sometimes getting 2 or 3 questions a day about it.  We resisted making a case file of it because the original fake is signed by "Zeke", a faker who has created many hundreds of fakes.  Most copies of the fake include his signature.  But it seems there are also versions on many different "nude celebrity" web sites that do not include his signature.  As with Christina Aguilera, we don’t want teenboppers being upset by this fake, so we’ve done an extra bit of censoring.  With over 100,000 fakes in circulation on the Internet, we hope there won’t be many more that generate the same amount of interest as this one.

CASE #286 - This fake of Jessica Alba is a bit worrisome for The Fake Detective.  It’s just a bit too sophisticated.  The fakery isn’t immediately obvious, but, if you adjust the brightness and contrast, the nipple becomes very clear.  That makes people think they’ve uncovered something that no one else has noticed - and maybe the magazine editors missed.  That bit of psychological trickery helps convince people that the picture is real.  But it’s not.  The original magazine cover does show the nipple to some degree, but you have to strain just to see the areola.  Unlike other recent case files, there are no European versus American standards at work here.  It’s just very sophisticated fakery of a type we can do without.

CASE #287 - This fake of Jennifer Love Hewitt illustrates two current trends.  First, the original pictures used to create the fakes are not typical scans from magazines.  They appear to be direct scans of original photographs that can be found for sale on the photographer’s web site or on e-bay.  That means they are very sharp, clear and large images that are then used by fakers to create sharp, clear and large fakes.  Second, because the photographer may have taken a dozen pictures of the celebrity from various angles, a series of sharp, clear fakes can be created to fool people into thinking they are real.  Fortunately, in this case no one really believes that Jennifer would go out in public this way, but the questions still come in asking how the fakes were created.  In this case we contacted the faker to obtain the original images.  We thank "Logan 5" for providing them, but we still deduct a fraction of a point for the total unbelievability of the situation in the fakes.

CASE #288 - This fake of Phoebe Cates fooled The Fake Detective; not because he ever thought it was real, but because he thought it was a look-alike.  Someone confirmed that suspicion and provided enough information that we believed it and used the picture as part of Eyetest #15.  But, a year and a half later, Joe Basco showed us that that source was in error by providing us with the real body shot.  To confirm the error, we quickly found the real head shot, proving that the picture was not a look-alike but actually just a routine composite fake.  But the error thoroughly convinced us we need to wait for solid proof before identifying "look-alike fakes".

CASE #289 - This fake of Kelly Brook caused The Fake Detective to goof up in a major way.  From the very beginning he felt the picture that shows her breast seemed more believable, but the breast did seem a bit too large, too perfect and too well lit.  On the other hand, the shot that doesn’t show the breast didn’t seem faked, and it is the version that was printed in GQ magazine.  Why would GQ erase the side of breast on a picture of Kelly Brook that displays her bare butt?  So, The Fake Detective concluded that the picture with the breast was fake.  WRONG!  "Dodger", who works in the field of graphics, pointed out to us that the picture that shows no breast includes "repeats", i.e., definite signs of cloning.  Waves in the background repeat a definite pattern that doesn’t occur in nature.  The minute The Fake Detective saw this, he realized he had goofed.  GQ magazine did censor the picture.  They erased the breast by copying (i.e., cloning) sections of the background over it.  We thank "Dodger" for pointing out this error.  To see the original case file, click HERE.

CASE #290This fake of Lynda Carter shows how things have changed over the years.  Today we wouldn’t ordinarily bother exposing obvious fakes such as these.  A couple years ago, however, these fakes were in wide circulation, and we created Wanted Poster #39 to find the head shot that is used for both fakes.  Although we’ve looked at dozens of head shots that appear very similar, we never found the exact match.  Now that XMarksTheSpot and Peter have provided us with the body shots for both fakes, there doesn’t seem to be any point in hunting for the head shot any longer.  So, this case files closes Wanted Poster #39 as far as we’re concerned.  Thanks to everyone who tried finding the head shot.

CASE #291 - This fake of Cheryl Ladd has been in circulation for so long that it’s become believable only because of it’s age.  But when we were recently asked about it again, we decided it was time to make a case file for it.

CASE #292 - This fake of Denise Richards reminded The Fake Detective of Case #61.  We found the head shot, but it didn’t seem sufficient to close the file.  When creating this fake, the faker used only the main part of the face, blending it seamlessly into the face that belongs with the body shot.  And changes in skin tone and the color of the lips made it necessary to find the body shot to eliminate all doubt that we had the right head shot and that the fake was indeed a fake.  We asked around, and Trillian quickly supplied the body shot.  He’s not the artist behind this fake, but he did some checking and found that it’s another Fredd38 fake stripped of the signature.

CASE #293 - This fake of Sandra Bullock almost fooled The Fake Detective when he fell into a bout of wishful thinking while looking at it.  The images looked like they could have been taken outside of a studio dressing room, and Sandra could be horsing around, as she is known to do.  But it’s actually a series of video captures from the movie "Speed 2: Cruise Control", a scene where Sandra is coming out of the bathroom wearing a bathing suit.  The faker took 12 frames from the movie, painted over the top of her bathing suit on each of them, and turned the images into a fake "animated gif" file.  But we can still wish.

CASE #294 - This fake of Salma Hayek has fooled a lot of people and is in many collections, probably because there is no real reason to suspect that it’s a fake.  But it is.  Salma has posed for more daring shots than this, yet some faker apparently wanted to fool people with his own creation - and succeeded.

CASE #295 - This fake of Gillian Anderson could be of interest only to The Fake Detective.  It sent him on "The Great American Mole Hunt" to determine which mole was real.  We examined dozens of close-up pictures.  In the process, we found many pictures where Gillian’s mole was removed entirely, and a few which were printed in reverse showing her mole on the wrong side, but this was the only picture we found where her mole was moved to the other side so that the picture could be printed in reverse - probably for obscure aesthetic reasons known only to editors.

Addendum: While investigating Case #295, we found another picture from the same photo shoot (click HERE to view it) that increased the mystery and made us wonder if the photographer or editor had mole-phobia.  It appears that this image is also reversed, but this time strands of hair were deliberately placed in the exact position to suggest that they are covering the mole - which is actually hidden in the shadow on the other side of her face.

CASE #296 - This fake of Britney Spears has resulted in another flood of questions from people wondering if it is real or not, even though it should seem illogical to believe that Britney would appear on stage this way.  It’s just a fake, another good example of the increasingly popular practice of creating fakes by taking a picture of the breasts of one woman, making them semi-transparent, and pasting them onto a picture of a clothed celebrity to make it seem as if the celebrity’s clothes are semi-transparent.

CASE #297 - This fake of Jennie Garth fooled The Fake Detective - not because it’s so good, but because it’s so subtle and unexpected.  Why would anyone turn a very interesting (and fairly rare) picture of Sarah Jessica Parker into a mediocre fake of Jennie Garth?  We had the fake in our files of "real pictures" until "Jagger" happened to be going through his files and noticed the similarity between the two pictures and contacted us for an evaluation.  We thank "Jagger" for bringing this to our attention.  But it makes us wonder if someday every picture will have to be evaluated to determine if it’s real or not - even those that seem pointless to fake.

CASE #298 - This fake of Penelope Ann Miller has been in circulation for several years and is in many collections.  It’s been known for a long time that the picture was taken by photographer Helmut Newton, but that fact didn’t disprove the identity of the woman.  Finally, Paolo in Italy contacted us with a picture of the same woman in a Italian calendar, and her name was included on the back: "Allison".  This is another case of someone circulating a picture of a relative unknown and saying it’s a picture of a celebrity.  No talent is needed for this kind of fakery, so we rate it accordingly.

CASE #299 - This fake of pro wrestling star Amy Dumas, a.k.a. "Lita", appears to be fooling a lot of wrestling fans who are anxiously awaiting the day when Lita will pose for Playboy.  But that day hasn’t yet arrived.  Meanwhile, someone created this fake to excite her fans.

CASE #300This fake of Heather Locklear was part of Wanted Poster #27 for over three years as we tried to determine if the "real" picture might have been modified by the photographer to remove some slight trace of nipple.  A color shot of her in that same top and a greatly enlarged scan of the picture finally put that notion to rest, so we withdrew the Wanted Poster.  And now people are again asking about the fake.  We’d hoped for something more sensational for Case #300, but instead this one will clean up old business so we can move on to a backlog that has been accumulating.
